Fast and robust multi-atlas segmentation of brain magnetic resonance images

Accuracy and speed of multi-atlas brain MRI segmentation are important, and this study introduces an optimized platform involving intensity differences for intensity normalized images instead of standard normalized mutual information in non-rigid registration. Using a standard multicore computer, computation time was only ~3-4 minutes, representing a threefold decrease without compromising accuracy.
